CLUB NEWS
2010 and 2011 are years the Border Vigilantes can be proud of. In the past two years the Border Vigilantes have given a needed polish to the tarnished image of Deadwood with great monthly matches and an annual match shared by twenty or more attending shooters each month. With Stages incorporating props and shenanigans reminiscent of years past, yet maintaining safety and organization, the Border Vigilantes gave shooters enjoyable fun filled Saturdays and a bond of camaraderie that is the foundation of cowboy action shooting. Away from the shooting range the Border Vigilantes have made donations both financially and with gifts to such organizations as SASS’ scholarship fund and the New Orleans Children’s Hospital. In sharing with others, the Border Vigilantes have shown that they know the true meaning of the Cowboy way. 2011 also brought changes to the Shooting range with new lease holders taking control over the fate of the town of Deadwood. With designs for the Deadwood Marshals to become the sole shooting club to benefit from the range of Deadwood the lease holders felt it in their best interest not to renegotiate a 2012 rental agreement with the Border Vigilantes. This movement was expected; it was logical and inevitable. Two clubs at one range would eventually lock horns and cause ill will between shooters in both clubs whose only interest is to have a relaxing Saturday of plinking targets. The Border Vigilantes have always maintained (from the first day we stepped onto Deadwood’s Main Street) that our relocation to Deadwood in 2010 was temporary. The loss of a 2012 rental lease agreement has only prompted the Border Vigilantes to saddle up, hitch up the wagons and head off into the sunset lookin’ for a parcel of land…and, we will find it. And when we do we’ll be shootin’ desperados once again on our monthly scheduled Saturday. However, while we search for a new location the Border Vigilantes will, unfortunately, not be an active shooting club and for that reason we will not require shooters to pay an annual renewal dues. We will resume collecting fees once the Border Vigilantes circle the wagons and start shooting again. Your patience and support in this latest chapter of the Border Vigilantes saga is greatly appreciated.

Final Territorial Governor’s message (for now)
Cowboys and Cowgirls, this has been one heck of a year. We shot up a lot of banditos and robbed many a bank, and had some great meals together. But all good things come to an end and we come to the end of The Border Vigilantes at Deadwood. We have had fun and a great run, so don’t beat yourselves up for what was inevitable. Deadwood Marshal’s are going to be the only club at Deadwood and we will have a chance to stand on the sideline and see how they do. Below is a list of the items we voted for at the Territorial Governor’s Convention. Oh, by the way, this was also the last SASS Convention to be held. The voting is as follows:
Results for 2011 Meeting of Governors SASS Action Shooter Items Item #1 For 235=82.75% -- Against 48=16.90% -- Abstain 1=.035% PASS
Item #2 For 112=39.44% -- Against 170=59.86% -- Abstain 2=.070% FAIL
Item #3 For 130=45.77% -- Against 152=53.52% -- Abstain 2=.070% FAIL
Item #4 For 182=64.08% -- Against 100=35.62% -- Abstain 2=.070% FAIL
Item #5 For 148=52.11% -- Against 136=47.89% -- Abstain 0=.00% FAIL
In closing, don’t let your heart get too hurt, as we are actively searching shooting venues that CAS could compliment. If you know someone, put a bug in their ear. For me personally, it has been a great year, I am sure we will all shoot together somewhere in the future, but it feels like losing part of your family.
A Cowboy’s word is not as strong as it was a few years ago.
